Disney sets Pirates of the Caribbean 5 for July 2017! But why?

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales is set to sail into theaters July 7, 2017!

Finally after many months of production delays and script rewrites, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales finally has been given the green light by Disney, and has a release date for July 7, 2017.

This is partly good and bad news for many pirate fans. For the good news, Disney finally gave them the green light and is on track for starting production and getting underway. The bad news, well it looks like this movie will not sail into theaters for another 3 years, that’s a very long time.

It’s been known for months that the fifth outing has been plagued with many problems, why? I do not know. Things grew even worse when Disney and Jerry Bruckheimer separated after their 20 year deal expired.

What the main problem is that fans won’t wait forever to watch it, and Disney/Jerry Bruckheimer could be shooting themselves in the foot with this decision. The fact they set it in 2017 means they have no confidence in the project to go against names like Ice Age or Independence Day.

But I guess we’ll have to wait and hear for more information, so stay tuned.

Box Office Results: Transformers dominates, everything behind it gets bad results!

34475-transformers4-pic1
Transformers outperforms new names in the theaters!

2014 has been one of the slowest years in box office history. What was supposed to dominate the fourth of July; Deliver Us From Evil, Tammy, and Earth to Echo fail to perform on a weak Independence Day weekend.

In a distant first, Transformers: Age of Extinction scored an estimated $36.4 million, down 63% from its $100 million opening weekend.

In second, Tammy got an okay estimated amount of $21.1 million from the weekend.

In third, Jerry Bruckheimer’s Deliver Us From Evil failed to make any noise and scored only an estimated amount of $9.5 million.

Down 40% in fourth, 22 Jump Streetearned a cool estimated $9.4 million.

Rounding out the top 5; How to Train Your Dragon 2 scored another estimated $8.7 million.

2014 has been extremely down when it comes to films this year, and I happen to know the reason.

Why is 2014 such a bad year? Because all the major studios are holding their best movies for 2015. With Avengers: Age of Ultron, Fantastic Four, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2, Ant-Man, Star Wars VII, Fast & Furious 7, Mortdecai, Ted 2, Jurassic World, Inside Out, Hotel Transylvania 2, James Bond 24, Kung Fu Panda 3, and finally Mission Impossible 5.

All these films listed are preparing their movies right now for the biggest year in all of the movie industry. It will cause the box office to explode! That is why 2014 is so lousy, because everyone is preparing their biggest stuff for 2015.

So some names like Transformers, The Hobbit, and Night at the Museum will get to take advantage of this year.

Jerry Bruckheimer gives updates on Pirates 5, Bad Boys 3, and National Treasure 3!

Jerry Bruckheimer's recent film, Deliver Us From Evil is now playing in theaters worldwide!

It’s been quite a while since the last update from Jerry Bruckheimer about his upcoming projects. But in a recent interview with Collider to promote his horror film Deliver Us From Evil, Bruckheimer took the time to reveal some information about Pirates 5, Bad Boys 3, and National Treasure 3.

After talking about Deliver Us From Evil, Bruckheimer talked about how Pirates of the Caribbean 5 will be a “straight pirates movie” and wont have anymore elements like Davy Jones or creates like those of the Flying Dutchman, or even creatures like the Kraken.

When asked about Bad Boys 3, Bruckheimer stated: “Well, we’re working on an outline right now. Hopefully we’ll get a screenplay in the next three months. And that will become a movie I hope.”

While it’s not surprising that they would want to do a sequel, its strange there willing to try another one after many years and take a chance with Michael Bay again, who has a really bad reputation in Hollywood.

Moving on to National Treasure 3; Bruckheimer said that the writers and director (That being Jon Turteltaub) had just had a meeting about the film and that hopefully the project will come together. When asked about the writer’s names and what adventure will take place, Bruckheimer stated that we’ll have to wait.

I really wish the interviewer had asked more questions on Pirates 5, seeing how that one is closer than Bad Boys 3 and National Treasure 3. But oh well, I guess we’ll have to wait and see.

Deliver Us From Evil is now playing in theaters near you!

Coming This Week and Box Office Prediction For: Deliver Us From Evil (2014 Film)

Deliver Us From Evil is set to be released on July 2!

One week after the monster Transformers: Age of Extinction stole the show, it’s time to see if Horror genre decides to step in and steal all the glory, that being Deliver Us From Evil.

Now I don’t normally write about horror films, but since this one is done by Jerry Bruckheimer and it is his first, I thought I’d write about it. The plot on this one is gruesome, but it is based on eyewitness accounts of a NYPD sergeant.

Now I’m sure after many years, I’m sure Jerry Bruckheimer should know these kinds of movies are hard to sell. So don’t expect this to top Transformers going into the 4th of July weekend. But I do expect it to do semi-impressive with at least a $20-$25 million opening.

I’m most definitely am not seeing this movie because I do not review horror movies nor do I plan to in the future. My advice to you, stay home and watch Frozen or Iron Man. If you’re a horror movie fan, then this is the movie for you.

Deliver Us From Evil

Opening Weekend:

Domestic: $25 Million

Foreign: $10 Million

Worldwide: $35 Million

Saturn Award long shots: Agent’s of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Disney’s The Lone Ranger could steal the show with victories, even if it’s a long shot.

The 40th Saturn Awards will be held tonight in Burbank, California

Today is the day! After waiting an extra week for it, The 40th Saturn Awards have finally arrived!

I’ve already made my predictions, which you can find here: https://hollywoodstarreviews.wordpress.com/2014/06/18/my-40th-saturn-awards-predictions/

But there are two names I predicted to win which just seem like long shots, that being Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Disney’s The Lone Ranger.

These two have been having a very rough road throughout their run, whether it’s television or the movie theater. For The Lone Ranger, Disney and Jerry Bruckheimer are struggling to deal with a $190 million loss on the film. I think despite the losses, a Saturn Award could give them a sense of accomplishment and a least remind them of all the hard work they did to make The Lone Ranger come alive.

For Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. it’s been a very disappointing 22 episode run for the freshman show. They spent most of their freshman struggling with bad scheduling and disappointing viewership. But despite all of what they faced, they were renewed for a second season. I believe that they deserve to win the Saturn Award because of what they went through to become a show that has finally earned its place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Make sure to stay tuned for the 40th Saturn Awards tonight in Burbank, California! As they will announce the winners tonight, and we will finally find out who earns a Saturn trophy!

Coincidence or Pattern? Some of the biggest names in Hollywood are just now getting there sequels ready?

For the last couple of days, I’ve been trying to piece together a pattern that is taking place right before my eyes. A lot of my favorite titles have announced sequels, but then shelf them and we don’t hear about it.

And now, those titles are now coming to light here in 2014. Some of them are listed below.

Night at the Museum 3: Secret of the Tomb: for many years, I wanted to see a sequel for this title. The last I heard about it was that they were in the “Idea’s stage” in 2010, and they never said anything more. And now, they not only completed the script, but there also filming the movie right now and are releasing it December 19, 2014. Coincidence?

National Treasure 3: This is yet again, another title I have spent years waiting for. Since 2008, I’ve always wanted to see a sequel. There were always years they said it would come out, like 2013 and 2014, but so far nothing. And now, Jerry Bruckheimer has said they have finished first act of the script that has everyone ready for action! And that within the next one to two years, they’ll be shooting the movie. Another weird coincidence?

Pirates of the Caribbean 5: Dead Men Tell No Tales: This is one that has me feeling the impatience of it all. I’ve been a Pirate fan for quite a while, and when they said it was moved from 2015 to 2016 I lost a lot of confidence, it added when Disney said that they have not greenlit the project yet. But now, Jerry Bruckheimer has said that there hard at work on it now and that shooting will begin December 14, 2014. Not really a coincidence, but something that I found interesting.

Pixar’s Cars 3: This is one I most definitely want to see, after they screwed up majorly in Cars 2. This is one Pixar has kept the lid on for almost three years. But now, Disney CEO Bob Iger announced a few months ago that Cars 3 is in the works right now. Another weird coincidence?

Puss in Boots 2: Ever since the movie Puss in Boots came out in 2011, it was always just a matter of time before they did a sequel. But after only one interview with the director, saying that they want to take Puss to “Exotic places”. And now, Antonio Banderas has said that he began work on the sequel back in April of 2014. Meaning that they’ll probably release in another couple of years.

And now, you must decide for yourself on this one. Coincidence or Pattern?

Movie Review: National Treasure 2: Book of Secrets

National Treasure: Book of Secrets is now available on DVD and Blue-Ray

Its time again! Where I review another great film done by legendary producer Jerry Bruckheimer! This time I will be doing the sequel, National Treasure: Book of Secrets.

Once again produced by Walt Disney Pictures and Jerry Bruckheimer Films, National Treasure: Book of Secrets is another great adventure that has a unique flavor that makes it very enjoyable.

The story is about Ben Gate’s quest to clear his ancestor’s name, Thomas Gates, after a man named Mitch Wilkinson (Played by Ed Harris) brings forth a missing Booth diary page that shows his ancestors name on the list with all the Lincoln killers.

Reprising his role as Ben Gates, Academy Award Winner Nicolas Cage provides another great performance. Also joining him is a great supporting cast. With Justin Bartha as Riley Poole, Diane Kruger as Dr. Abigail Chase, and Jon Voight as Patrick Gates.

Let’s dive into this sequel. The story is once again nicely done, tying it into American History and making believable. The villain (Ed Harris) is a bit weak at first, but is impressive. Action scenes and visual effects are also nicely done for the movie.

The rating I would give this movie is most definitely four out of five stars. This movie had a great cast, good story, nicely done visual effects, and fantastic action sequences.

And best of all, the ending credits are also very well done that makes you want to sit in the theater longer and watch the cool credits.

Yesterday I said in my post: “Thank you once again Mr. Bruckheimer, another great adventure film that I can enjoy for years to come.”

Today, that statement still stands and it also applies to how I feel for this movie, thank you Mr. Bruckheimer.

Movie Review: National Treasure (2004 Film)

National Treasure: Now available on DVD and Blue-Ray

Its time once again! Where we bring another great Jerry Bruckheimer hit that has captured the hearts of many fans worldwide, that being the first National Treasure.

Produced by Walt Disney Pictures and Jerry Bruckheimer Films, National Treasure is an American history action adventure film that makes history come alive and make you want to watch it again and again.

Starring Nicolas Cage and, National Treasure tells a story about the Gates family quest to find the great Templar Treasure, and Ben Gates (Played by Nicolas Cage) quest to end the search for it with him. When his grandfather (Played by Christopher Plummer.) tells him the story, and gives him a clue, he decides to finally find the treasure and restore his family’s name. Joining him on his adventure is Riley (Played by Justin Bartha) and Dr. Abigail Chase (Played by Diane Kruger)

Let’s dive into this adventure. The story has a pretty well done way of being told, and the using of American History tying it into there film was nicely done. The cast is also nicely done, starring Nicolas Cage, Justin Bartha, Jon Voight, and Lord of the Rings actor Sean Bean.

The special effects how briefly they might be are also well done, along with good action sequences and peril.

The rating I would give this movie is about four and a half out of five stars. It had a good story, well done cast, good visual effects, and nicely done action sequences.

Thank you once again Mr. Bruckheimer, another great adventure film that I can enjoy for years to come.

Movie Review: Confessions of a Shopaholic (2009 Film)

Confessions of a Shopaholic, Produced by Jerry Bruckheimer Films and Touchstone Pictures

It’s time once again! Were The Hollywood Star brings you another review of some of the classics of the decade! Today’s review is doing something a little different, that is not an action movie nor a movie that is well known, that being Confessions of a Shopaholic

Produced by Touchstone Pictures and Jerry Bruckheimer Films, Confessions of a Shopaholic is a story about a young girl named Rebecca Bloomwood (Played by Isla Fisher). Who is a shopaholic that spends thousands of dollars on shopping. But when she gets fired from her job and her debt starts to mount up, she gets a job at Successful Saving (A money magazine.), running it is cute Luke Brandon (Played by Hugh Dancy). Along the way, there successful column “The Girl in the Green Scarf” starts to change there life forever.

The acting was very well done, including the best supporting actor being the funny desk clerk. Isla Fisher brings true nature to the part and that’s what makes her so entertaining to watch.

Now let’s dive into it then, shall we? This movie was a very different tone that what has been done with romantic comedies nowadays. Many criticize the movie because of its dry humor and not being funny, I beg to differ. This movie had a lot of funny moments that put a smile on my face, and make me enjoy the film. Another thing this movie did that not many can do, is that it stayed true to life. People may not like movies like this, but it is a realistic story.

Many go to the movies for garbage that is not real. This movie is not, it makes you wonder about debt, addictions, selling products, writing for magazines, and understanding life and not going into debt.

I guess many who saw this movie are in debt, and don’t want to have the bad feeling of it reinforced, and are willing to bad mouth the movie  because it shows what’s really wrong with this world, debt.

The rating I would give this movie is most definitely four out of five stars. It had nicely done acting, a good story, very realistic tone, and a nice job by those who did.

There may not be a lot of people that appreciate the movie you people did, but know that there is one person who appreciates it.

Movie Review: Disney’s The Lone Ranger

Disney’s The Lone Ranger, released July 3, 2013

Hi ho Silver! Away! 2013, the Masked rider comes alive again! Produced by Disney and Jerry Bruckheimer Films, based off the famous hit western TV show, The Lone Ranger comes back in the saddle again!

The story begins when our hero John Reid/The Lone Ranger (Played by Armie Hammer) arrives as a new Lawyer who decides to come out to the west, on the train is Tonto (Played by Johnny Depp), soon to be his partner, also is Butch Cavendish (Played by William Fichtner), a ruthless outlaw. After Butch escapes, the Lone Ranger and his brother, Dan Reid (Played by James Badge Dale), along with 6 other men go off to find him. But while riding through a canyon, they are ambushed and all die except for John Reid/Lone Ranger. After Tonto buries the rangers, he discovers John is alive and nurses him back to health. After tough explaining, John decides to become the Lone Ranger and rides for Justice to bring down Butch Cavendish and his gang.

This is a movie I have mixed feelings about. Just to clarify, I will not be looking at the production problems or the budget of this movie. I like its uniqueness and its interesting locations. But I am disappointed by its length and storytelling.

Locations in the west are very unique, but not very appealing to audiences today. The story is very interesting, but it becomes a little to much when Cavendish eats Dan Reid’s heart (Which is enough to make anyone not want to see it.).  It starts to fall apart when they finally find Cavendish, and John Reid tries to get him tried and hanged when technically he won’t make it to the gallows because of the corruption. The length of the movie is two hours and twenty nine minutes, and I think that’s to much because it didn’t need a huge length. The final train action sequence is by far my favorite part of the movie. It was well done, stunning, and makes up for most of the flaws.

Another thing that there biggest mistake was the main actor himself, Armie Hammer. I will tell you one thing; he is absolutely no Lone Ranger. His character came across as a wimp, and was not likeable at all. During the 50’s TV show, The Lone Ranger came across as my father would put it, “A stud muffin” this guy did not at all. But I don’t think it’s Gore Verbinski fault or Jerry Brukheimer’s fault. The real blame for this movie goes on Ted Elliot & Terry Rossio and Justin Haythe, the writers of the movie. I have to admit, the story was good to a certain point, but the telling of the story was very lousy. Sorry Jerry, I am a huge fan of your movies and I consider you an inspiration for me, but this is not your best work.

The rating I would give this movie is probably 6.5/10. Keep in mind I’m still mixed feelings on this movie and my rating can be subject to change.
